Ministry of Labor Urges Y & W Garment Workers to Halt Protests, Pursue Legal Resolution

Phnom Penh: The Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training has urged Y & W Garment Company workers to refrain from halting their protests and instead seek legal avenues for resolution. This call comes after the company's closure and the departure of its owner, prompting concerns over public order and community welfare.

The Ministry's appeal follows a demonstration on March 9, 2024, by workers of Y & W Garment Company, located on Chamkar Dong Street (217), Prek Chrey Village, Sangkat Spean Thmor, Khan Dangkor, Phnom Penh. The protest resulted in the closure of Public Road 217, Sangkat Prek Chrey, Khan Dangkor, leading to traffic disruptions and public order disturbances.

Clarifying the nature of the labor dispute, the Ministry stated that Y & W Garment Company's closure due to the owner's departure necessitates resolution in accordance with labor and bankruptcy laws.

As per legal procedures, the Ministry intends to pursue legal action against the company to secure asset management orders and address grievances, ensuring timely payment of wages and benefits to all affected workers.

Additionally, the Ministry emphasized the importance of adherence to legal protocols by legal advisors, local unions, and other stakeholders, urging professionalism and conscientiousness. Any attempt to exploit labor disputes for illegal protests will face legal consequences, with accountability upheld under the law.
